Railton Road Echidna Rescue

We did a rescue today that was successful, but also sad and distressing.

The success was locating and containing a beautiful Echidna from the side of Railton Road in Kimberley. Echidnas are enchanting and one of our most iconic Australian animals.

Our beautiful Echidna friend found itself in a truly distressing situation when members of the public took it upon themselves to hit it with sticks, attack it and then rolled it over and continued to hit it on the underside of its body.

Why……….? We will never ever understand what would drive people to inflict such violence and distress on any animal – it is incredibly sad, and unjustifiable.

To the member of the public that witnessed the situation and called this one in – THANKYOU for being a good citizen of Earth. We hope the photos and car registration are handed over to the appropriate authorities.

Our Echidna friend is now with the loving and caring team at Tasmania Wildlife Hospital, and will be released back to the wild when ready.
