About Wild Island
Wild Island is an independent wildlife news, conservation and education website based in Tasmania. We cover issues affecting native wildlife, including threatened species, habitat protection, scientific research and conservation developments across Tasmania and Australia.
Our aim is to provide accessible, reliable information about native wildlife and the issues affecting its conservation.
Our background is in wildlife rescue and rehabilitation, where caring for injured and orphaned animals has given us firsthand experience of the pressures facing native species. That experience continues to inform our reporting and the information we share through Wild Island.
The People Behind Wild Island
Wild Island is run by Dale & Chris from Claude Road, at the foot of Mount Roland in North West Tasmania. Alongside our other commitments, we have spent years caring for injured and orphaned native wildlife, providing a safe environment for animals requiring rehabilitation.
Much of our experience has come from working directly with wildlife, from the everyday challenges of caring for animals to the difficult circumstances in which they are sometimes found. It has also brought us into contact with other wildlife carers, rescue organisations and people working to protect Tasmania’s native species.
Wild Island is independently operated and is not affiliated with any government department, political organisation or conservation group. Our articles draw on scientific research, government publications, conservation organisations and other credible sources, with an emphasis on accuracy and providing appropriate context.
