Donation & Sponsorship
As a volunteer run rescue and rehabilitation service for injured and orphaned wildlife in Tasmania, we dedicate our time, energy, and contribute personal finances. While we manage much of this ourselves, your support can make a big difference in assisting us to provide the best possible care.
There are several ways you can get involved—whether through a donation or by sponsoring one of the animals in our care. We have listed a variety of items below that we use to care and rehabilitate Tasmanian wildlife.
Nutrition
Proper nutrition is vital for the health and rehabilitation of wildlife, supporting their growth, vitality, and recovery. Ensuring they receive the right diet is essential for their survival, but it also comes with an ongoing financial cost. Providing appropriate food for each species requires careful planning, time, and resources, which can be a significant expense. Your support plays a crucial role in their care and future, helping us give these animals the best chance at recovery and release.
Below is a list of items we rely on—if you’re able to help out, we’d be incredibly grateful.
- Milk Powder Formula
- Critical Care & Supplements
- Fresh & Dried Insects
- Fresh Fruit & Vegetables
- Fresh Native Flora Cuttings
First Aid Supplies
It may seem like a strange concept, but most first aid supplies have expiry dates. First aid supplies (whether expired or not) can assist wildlife carers in a range of situations and circumstances. Most workplaces replace their first aid kits once a year, and a vast majority are disposed of and end up in land fill. If your workplace doesn’t have a plan to recycle or repurpose expired first aid supplies, we would love to have a chat with you.
Hygiene & Sanitation
During the rescue and rehabilitation stages, maintaining good hygiene is essential. We use various products and equipment to minimise infection risks, ensuring the animals’ health and safety throughout their recovery process. Proper hygiene practices are crucial for successful rehabilitation and preventing complications during the recovery phase.
We have listed a number of products and consumables used:
- F10 SC Veterinary Disinfectant
- Hand Sanitisers
- Tissues, Paper Towel & Other Consumables
- Puppy Pads
- Latex Gloves
Washing Liquid
When joey season hits, the washing machines of every wildlife carer would be churning all day & night. Hygiene during rehabilitation is extremely important, and pouches can be swapped out several times a day. A constant supply of washing liquid is needed to keep on top of the mountain of dirty pouches and cuddle pods. At Wild Island, we prefer to wash with Bosisto’s Sensitive Laundry Liquid.
Medication & Medical Supplies
During the wildlife rehabilitation process, medication may be required to aid in recovery from infections, manage wounds, or support post-operative care. In some cases, these medications are provided free of charge, while on other occasions, we cover the associated expenses to ensure the animals receive the necessary treatment.
Building Materials & Supplies
At times we undertake preventative maintenance on our wildlife enclosures to prevent deterioration and to maintain a safe space for our animals to recover. We accept donations of building materials and supplies as needed, and are also appreciative of trade skills to assist with our preventative maintenance program.
Please reach out if you wish to donate or sponsor. Your support can make a big difference in assisting us to provide the best possible care.
